Addressing Food Safety in Developing Supply Chains

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

Meridian Senior Mediator and Program Director, Rex Raimond, wrote a guest commentary for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, as part of the Council’s blog series Growing Food for Growing Cities. The blog post, Addressing Food Safety in Developing Supply Chains, addresses urbanization and supply chain changes; the important role that governments play in enabling growth through policies and investments; as well as challenges and reasons for optimism in food safety issues. By establishing platforms for collaboration across agriculture, health, and trade sectors, as well as facilitating engagement of producers and processors in critical value chains, there are opportunities to develop multi-faceted solutions that will benefit vulnerable rural and urban populations. The blog summarizes lessons from Meridian Institute’s work to support the Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa as well as Meridian’s support of a joint Kofi Annan Foundation–African Union Commission convening: Harnessing Innovation for African Agriculture and Food Systems.
