Energy-Positive Water Resource Recovery Workshops

Related: Environment and Natural Resources

Meridian is facilitating a collaborative effort between the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Department of Energy to collaboratively advance energy-positive water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs) as an alternative to conventional wastewater treatment. Three workshops have been conducted. Meridian’s role is to facilitate the partnership among the federal agencies, work with them to collaboratively design agendas for the convenings, and stimulate further dialogue among cross-sector stakeholders to help accelerate the wide-scale advent of advanced WRRFs. Partners have included the Water Environment Federation, the Water Environment Research Foundation, several academic institutions, the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Defense, and numerous private-sector entities and nongovernmental organizations. With coordination support from Meridian, these partners are working together overcome the obstacles to bringing innovative technologies on line to help recover the scarce resources embedded in urban wastewater. See the report from the April 2015 workshop here.
