In 2015, Meridian facilitated a meeting of the Technical Consortium (TC) for Building Resilience in the Horn of Africa. The TC provides technical support to national and local governments in the Horn of Africa to establish baselines, measure progress, and inform policy and investment decisions to strengthen resilience in the region. Topics of discussion at the meeting, which was hosted by the International Livestock Research Institute in Washington, DC, included understanding TC members’ ongoing related work; prioritizing activities for 2015; identifying ideas for future TC research, activities, and partnerships; preparing to contribute to the Global Alliance Resilience Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in March 2015; and developing a scientific and research advisory mechanism for the TC. Meeting participants included TC partners (CGIAR Research Centers, universities, and NGOs) and Kenyan national and county government representatives who are planning activities to strengthen resilience in the arid and semi-arid regions of Kenya.
