US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Workshops on Control of Solid Materials

Related: Climate Change and Energy, Environment and Natural Resources, Health, Science and Technology

Meridian facilitated workshops for the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to solicit early public input on a proposed rule that would allow for the recycling of low-level radioactive material. Five workshops took place throughout the United States during 1999 and were part of an enhanced participatory rulemaking process on this issue. Participants included representatives from environmental organizations, Tribes, state and federal government agencies, and various industry sectors, among others. NRC staff used the input provided by the participants, as well as written comments submitted to the public record, to develop recommendations for a rule that were submitted to the NRC in 2000.
