CIFOR Workshop on Integrating REDD into the Global Climate Protection Regime

Related: Climate Change and Energy

Meridian Institute designed and facilitated an introductory workshop in Tokyo, Japan, on proposals for and implications of integrating Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) into the global climate protection regime. In developing and convening the workshop, Meridian worked closely with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), the Amazon Institute for Environmental Research, the Overseas Development Institute, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, and the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute.

During the workshop, more than 40 participants from a broad range of organizations and from developed and developing countries identified priority questions for short-term analysis and the methods most suitable for tackling those questions. The workshop laid the groundwork for a collaborative research effort to provide negotiators and other stakeholders participating in the 14th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Conference on Climate Change with rigorous analysis, informed by a range of perspectives, of the implications of alternative REDD proposals.
