Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research Directors General and Board Chairs Retreats

Related: Agriculture and Food Systems

In 2000, Meridian facilitated a two-day retreat at The Hague for the directors and board chairs of the 16 centers that make up the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The centers are independent, nonprofit agricultural research organizations located around the world, each of which have a particular focus on agricultural products and techniques that benefit developing countries.

The center board chairs and center directors discussed a variety of issues of common concern, including ways to enhance collaborative efforts among the centers and ways to streamline their operations. The results of the meeting were discussed with multiple stakeholders and in various venues subsequent to the retreat, including at the CGIAR Annual General Meeting.

In 2003, Meridian facilitated a meeting of the board chairs, followed by a joint meeting of the board chairs and center directors. These meetings took place at a critical phase in the reform of the CGIAR system. The joint meeting resulted in consensus on a statement that was put forward for consideration by the Executive Council of the CGIAR.
