Ecological Society of America Scientific Society Summit

Related: Science and Technology

In 2006, with a grant from the National Science Foundation, the Ecological Society of America convened a three-day meeting in Washington, DC, of representatives from 12 major professional societies that publish scholarly journals. Meridian Institute staff facilitated the meeting, at which participants discussed how to encourage or even require the authors of peer-reviewed scientific papers to make the data underlying their articles publicly available. Since the meeting took place, the societies have made progress in establishing incentives for authors to make their data available.
