In May 2018, Meridian Institute facilitated the second Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy, and Water Systems (INFEWS) Principal Investigator Workshop. INFEWS is an initiative of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Institute for Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA). INFEWS grantees convened for this three-day workshop to continue building a community of science around food, energy, and water (FEW) systems research, engage in dialogue about their research projects and plans, and provide input to NSF and USDA-NIFA regarding project constraints, program challenges, examples of success, and best practices for conducting interdisciplinary FEW nexus research.  Key topics addressed during the 2018 PI workshop included: new directions in FEW social science research; frontiers in FEW data science; and exploring pathways from INFEWS research to real-world impacts. More than 100 researchers, agency staff, and guest speakers participated. In preparation for the workshop, Meridian facilitated regular Workshop Planning Committee meetings. The Meridian team helped manage the invitation process and supported development of the workshop agenda and materials. Meridian will also produce a workshop summary for NSF and USDA-NIFA.

Meridian also facilitated the inaugural INFEWS PI Workshop in March 2017. To learn more, please visit the INFEWS website.
