In March 2017, Meridian Institute facilitated the inaugural Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy, and Water Systems (INFEWS) Principal Investigator Workshop, an initiative of the National Science Foundation (NSF). The workshop engaged researchers who had been awarded NSF INFEWS grants in interactive discussions to identify lessons learned and best practices for conducting interdisciplinary research and to share preliminary findings from food, energy, and water (FEW) research projects. The INFEWS grantees discussed opportunities to improve interdisciplinary research on FEW nexus issues and reflected on specific strategies to expose the broader scientific community to the INFEWS concept and approach.

In preparation for the workshop, Meridian facilitated weekly planning sessions with members of the NSF’s INFEWS Steering Committee and helped design the workshop agenda. Participants included more than 150 researchers, NSF staff, and affiliated individuals. To learn more, please visit the INFEWS website.
