Molycorp Site Cleanup Public Meetings

Related: Environment and Natural Resources

Meridian Institute staff, in partnership with Rosemary Romero Consulting, facilitated two community meetings in 2007 and 2008 regarding the cleanup of a molybdenum mine owned by Molycorp Minerals in northern New Mexico. Oversight of the mine cleanup was being conducted by the State of New Mexico and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). While not an officially designated Superfund site, the cleanup was proposed to follow the remedial investigative and feasibility study process consistent with the Superfund process. The purpose of the meetings was to enable the EPA to explain the proposed cleanup process to community members, seek their engagement in helping to shape the process going forward, and identify any activities that needed to be conducted under parallel emergency response actions. The meetings took place in Questa, New Mexico.
