National Parks Conservation Association’s Everglades National Park Dialogue

Related: Environment and Natural Resources

In September 2007, the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) convened and sponsored two dialogue sessions in Homestead, Florida, between members of the public and the managers of the Everglades National Park (ENP) to discuss issues facing the ENP. Meridian Institute worked with NPCA staff to develop an effective approach and meeting design, and also facilitated the sessions.
Approximately 75 people took part in the sessions, including commercial and recreational fishermen, representatives from nongovernmental organizations, and members of the public, in addition to ENP officials. Participants discussed a wide range of issues relating to the management of terrestrial and aquatic habitat in the park and the education of and communication with park users. Participants also developed a list of action items for park officials to address.
