Buzzing with Data: CBS Features BeeOdiversity and Meridian Partnership

8 November 2024

CBS News featured a partnership between Meridian Institute and BeeOdiversitya powerful environmental data, action, and monitoring service for companies, governments, and communities.

Through this work, beehives collect billions of environmental data samples, including plant species and chemical contaminant data, which we analyze to provide companies, governments, and communities practical data for managing local environmental and health risks. In the video, hear from a farmer in Oregon about the applicability of this data for his farmlands on the Klamath River, as well as from BeeOdiversity’s CEO Michael van Cutsem.

BeeOdiversity is based on Europe and has several hundred sites. It was introduced to the U.S. in 2021 and has since added 19 sites. Current sites in the U.S. focus on Superfund restorations, renewable energy facilities, commercial regenerative agriculture operations, and more.

BeeOdiversity was also one of the biodiversity data exhibitors that participated in the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP16) biodiversity conference events in Colombia. BeeOdiversity’s data has proven extremely useful as the basis for convening diverse public and private stakeholders, as it is scientifically detailed, practical, and insightful for all the stakeholders in a region.
